2014 Financial System Inquiry

The Financial System Inquiry has released a Discussion Paper, outlining the key issues confronting the Australian financial system and options for dealing with those issues.

Copies of the Discussion Paper are being provided to all people who made submissions to the Inquiry. Copies may also be purchased from Australian Government bookshops. An electronic version may be downloaded from the Inquiry’s Internet Homepage. The address is

The Inquiry invites brief, written submissions on the issues raised by the Discussion Paper by no later than Monday 13 January 1997. Submissions (including, where possible, an electronic version in Microsoft Word format, or alternatively in any Rich Text format) should be addressed to:

As at 12 November 1996 the Financial System Inquiry has received a total of 268 submissions. Those that are public are listed in Appendix E to the Discussion Paper.

Copies of Submissions

Copies of the public submissions may be obtained as follows:

  1. Those public submissions that have been provided in electronic form are available for downloading from the Inquiry’s Internet Homepage.
  2. If you wish to purchase a hard copy of the public part of any submission, please complete the attached order form (Attachment A) and forward it with payment to the Expo Document Copy Centre. Details of cost and the address of the Copy Centre appear on the form.

Apart from these methods, the Inquiry will not be making copies available.

Public Consultation

The Inquiry is holding a series of public consultations on the regulatory options outlined in the discussion paper. These consultations will give interested persons an opportunity, if they wish, to present their views directly to the Inquiry and respond to any questions from its members. When scheduling these consultations, preference will be given to people who have made written submissions dealing with the terms of reference. The consultations will be held on the following dates:

The consultations will be open to the public and transcripts will be made publicly available.

Final Report

The Final Report of the Inquiry is due to be provided to the Treasurer by 31 March 1997.
